Glorious holidays in Galloway

Our family has had many happy holidays on The Machars Peninsula in Galloway. We spent our holidays here when we were growing up and now we bring our own children to this hidden corner of south west Scotland, which stretches into the Solway south of Newton Stewart. We want you to enjoy the area as much as we do and the purpose of this website is to be your guide to Galloway and The Machars. It is not exhaustive, but it includes things to do in Galloway that we enjoy, and we hope you will, too.

FAMILY HOLIDAYS... and RELAXING GETAWAYS

Glorious Galloway... family holidays and relaxing getaways. Portpatrick.

Glorious Galloway... family holidays and relaxing getaways. Portpatrick.

Galloway is a wonderful place for an action-packed family holiday with young children, tweens and teens, or a relaxing getaway just for two. There are activities for all, ranging from zip wires and water sports for adrenaline junkies, to beautiful gardens nurtured in the warm climate of the Gulf Stream and stargazing in the dark skies of Galloway Forest Park.

There is walking and cycling to suit all abilities on and off road; there are beaches, coves and rivers; spectacular scenery; good pubs; delicious local food to forage and countryside that rolls away to the sea in all directions. Galloway has artists to discover and a rich history and heritage from the battles of Robert The Bruce and the English king Edward I, to the arrival of Christianity.

And when your day is done, curl up in front of a log fire or relax in the garden of our cosy cottage, Burnside.

There are lists and lists of ‘things to do in Galloway’ available online, but this guide to Galloway is a personal one. The activities listed here comprise our favourite things. Elsewhere on our website, we have some suggestions on how you could plan your week-long trip, with youngsters, tweens and teens, or if you are visiting as a couple. But of course, there is even more on offer and we would encourage you to have a good look around to make sure you are not missing out!
